Well, hello. Its been a while since we have met here. What can I say, life in 2016 has kept me busy so far. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been jotting down tidbits of thoughts that I want to share with you all.
For example, those little things that happen that could be considered coincidence, if you believe in coincidence… I dont. It happened again recently… I was reading my devotional one morning and the passage was focused on Joy. I read about the importance of joy in our lives… and about having days filled with gratitude; moments of giving thanks to God for all that we have been given. A simple reminder to start my day. I thought it was sweet, thought about how I feel that I am joyful more than not, and I took a moment to thank God for everything I am and everything that I am growing to be.
Moving on with my day, I sometimes journal while having my lunch at work. On this particular day, I decided to pull out the journal and, it read: “Make a list of the first things that come to mind when you think of the word Joy.” I chuckled to myself. After all, joy had already been on my mind, so this list was going to be easy.
I smiled my way through the rest of my day, remembering that joy must be the theme of it, since it popped up twice already. I hear ya, God, I thought.
My family and I decided to end our day by having dinner at a local restaurant. We were busy reviewing the menu when the waitress came to take our drink order. She was a sweet, older woman and as I looked up at her, the first thing I saw was her name tag, which read… you guessed it… Joy.
Coincidence? Ironic? Nah…God is a funny guy … and very insightful. He knows what we need before we need it. He fills our mind and our world with ideas -not because we necessarily need to learn a lesson now… but to better prepare us for our future. He already knows what is in store for us.
Just so happens within the next couple of days my family hit a little bump in the road. No matter how frustrated, angry, hurt or upset I got, I still had the word joy dancing in my head. It may not have corrected the situation entirely and it may not have helped me in the heat of the moment, but God knew that when I was feeling pretty low I was going to need to remember this gift of great pleasure and happiness he has given to me.
It is important to remember that no matter what happens in life, we are always prepared to handle any situation, whether we believe we are or not. God has made you ready and he has made you capable. It is up to you to remember to use those gifts.
MOST IMPORTANT: you must remember that, even when you feel like you failed or find yourself in a dark or sad place — Joy always comes in the morning. Let the awakening sun kiss your forehead and remind you that each day is a fresh day; a new day, God has given you yet another chance to sprinkle joy in His world.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. – Psalms 30:5 (NLT)
