A Very Happy Easter Prayer

When I think of the arrival of Spring, I think of bright colors of reds, yellows, greens, oranges, pinks, and purples. The world comes alive again after the long, cold winter and the life it brings is a colorful one. The book, A Very Happy Easter Prayer, illustrated by Natalia Moore, does a wonderful job at capturing these bright colors and reflecting the world’s awakening.

The author, Bonnie Rickner Jensen, does more than just give us a happy prayer for Easter. She gives a lesson in gratitude. She gives thanks for everything from the breeze to the buzzing bees in her sweet, gentle, rhyming ways.

In fact, between the covers of the book you will find rhymes about:

  • Hope
  • Forgiveness
  • Life
  • God’s promises
  • New beginnings
  • Jesus
  • Heaven’s love
This book is a sturdy board book that is sure to last through the hands of many kids over the years. And the best part is that the colors won’t fade. For years to come, you will be able to follow all of the furry creatures — from bunnies and foxes, to bears, squirrels, and cows — and remember just how important it is to give thanks to God for all that he has breathed into life. The words in this story show all the joy each one of the characters is feeling for all that Spring and Easter bring.

In all honestly, it is rated for 0-4 years of age and it is never too early to teach a child how to be grateful for the small things — and the reason we have them. However, this Easter prayer can be enjoyed for years to come as even adults can use the reminders that this book brings. So often we are caught up in the monotony of life without taking time to stop and enjoy the moment; enjoy the season.

So, this Easter, give thanks for all that you have — including the “hopping frogs” and the “bees that buzz.” God has placed everything where it is for a reason — even you.
