God’s Hope

It doesn’t matter what lies ahead of us, our God is so much bigger than it. We can obsessively panic over things. We can worry. We can make plans and take steps to do things differently to avoid whatever it is. We can think we know what we are doing and hope that God is following our plan, but… wait, what? Yeah, I thought that sounded a bit funny, too. God – following our plans? 😁😁

The plans that we create to fight and overcome our earthly obstacles are simple and, well, meaningless. We’re being honest here, right? Look around you right now – everything that you see, the contacts in your phone, the neighborhood you reside in, your job, etc. All of this is our day-to-day and is generally the extent of what most of us know. Sure, we may have lived or visited other locations and we know people who reside in other areas, but the circle surrounding us right now, at this point in life, is what we are working with. This is what easily makes it into the forefront of our mind.

For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

A hurricane is coming? Let me run to Home Depot down the street to buy the supplies we will need. Oh, and I will swing in the Publix around the corner to buy some non-perishable food items.

A kid is sick? I will just run him up the road to his pediatrician.

Dog having an allergy attack? Well, that’s a trip to the vet across the street.

COVID-19 is here? Well, guess we will stay in.

It’s all a bubble of things that we see as issues for us – and for those close to us. My dog’s allergy attack is not going to affect Mary in Utah. And the pending doom of a hurricane in South Florida is not going to have much of an impact on Cristos in Santorini, is it? Yet, we think we know what we need, when we need it, how we need it, and why, for that matter. All without taking into consideration how our measly little life intermingles with the rest of the universe.

But, God … Oh, God. He sees everything. He sees the greater picture. We want things done in a certain time and in a certain way because that is what we know. We can’t see what God sees and we don’t know what God knows. He may give us what we are looking for, but it will be in his time and in his way.

No matter what you have going on in your heart and in your mind today, let it go. Allow yourself to have confidence that God sees you from his perspective — which means he has a much, much better idea of what your plans should be. You will be ok.

Trust.

The LORD is my light and my salvation – so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?

Psalm 27:1
